Figueira da Foz International Prize 2019

The masterclasses will include one International Piano Competition, including the following 3 categories with the same Selection Round (see repertoire):

1) General competition (no age limit), see repertoire rules below
2) Special Prize Young Talent (see prizes below)
3) Special Prize Best Portuguese Contestant (see prizes below)

Candidates can apply to more than one category at the same time, if fullfilling their requisites. If this happens, they will neverthless perform only once the Selection Round. 
Pianists may be awarded the special prizes without being finalists of the general competition.


1) Repertoire

The competition will consist of two rounds:

Selection round (solo):

-1 Etude, among the following:

Chopin - Op. 10 nr. 1/2/4/7/8/11 or Op. 25 nr. 6/8/10/11 
Debussy - Pour les degrés chromatiques / Pour les arpèges composés
Liszt - Transcendental Etudes: "Mazeppa" / "Feux Follets" / "Wilde Jagd" / "Allegro Agitato Molto" / "Chasse-neige"
Prokofiev - Op. 2 nr. 1 or 3
Rachmaninov - Op 33/6 or Op.39 nr. 3 or 6

-1 Work chosen by the candidate 

The jury will finish the candidate's audition at the 10th minute.
  
Final with Orchestra:

3 pianists will be selected, should their level reach the standard considered appropriate by the jury.

2) Prizes

1st prize:  600 €

Special Prize Young Talent: 
One student, not older than 17 on the 9th February 2019, will be invited to perform J. S. Bach Concerto No. 1 in D minor, BWV 1052, in the closing concert of the festival.

Special Prize Best Portuguese Contestant:
The best portuguese contestant will be invited to perform Carlos Seixas, Concerto in A major in the closing concert of the festival.


3) Rules

1. Competitors who are not ready to perform when called upon to do so may be disqualified.
2. The Jury retains the right to stop a performance if the competitor exceeds the allotted time.
3. Competitors cannot appeal against the decisions of the Jury.
4. All faculty professors will be invited to be part of the jury.
5. Works must be performed by memory.
6. The jury reserves the right to select less finalists/prizewinners if the level of the performances is below the standard considered appropriate by the jury to perform as soloist with orchestra.
